For project managers, operators and design firms

The snag list is the asset register's first draft.

Everything you check at handover — the right item, in the right room, correctly installed — is what Controlbook records as a live asset, so the building opens with a queryable database instead of a box of PDFs.

  • Handover the building as a live asset database
  • Spec, supplier and condition captured at sign-off
  • Designer builds it; the operator inherits it on day one

How to use this tool

  1. 1Add the rooms or areas you're inspecting.
  2. 2List the items to check in each, with a note where needed.
  3. 3Mark each item outstanding, in progress or signed off.
  4. 4Export the checklist to CSV or print it for the site walk-round.

What is snagging?

Snagging is the final inspection before handover — the walk-round where every defect, missing item and unfinished detail is logged so it can be put right before the client signs off. On an FF&E project that means checking each room against the specification: is the right furniture there, undamaged, correctly installed and complete.

This generator gives you a structured, room-by-room checklist instead of a clipboard and a biro. Add your areas and the items to check, record the status and notes for each, and you have a living defects list that totals what's outstanding. It saves to your browser between visits, so the same list is there when you return to re-inspect.

Export to CSV or print it for the site. It is a practical free alternative to a snagging-list template — and a reminder that the snag list, the specification and the asset record are really the same data, captured at three moments in a building's life.

Frequently asked questions

What is snagging and a handover checklist?

Snagging is the inspection that finds defects and incomplete work before a project is handed over. A handover checklist records each item to be checked, its status and any defects, so everything is resolved and signed off before the client takes responsibility.

Can I organise the checklist by room?

Yes. Add each room or area, then list the items to inspect within it. The checklist groups by area and tracks outstanding versus signed-off items so you can see what's left at a glance.

Can I save and reuse the checklist?

Your checklist is saved in your browser, so it persists between visits on the same device for re-inspection. Export it to CSV or print it whenever you need a copy to share or file.
